Get to know the W2BC ambassadors: Lutz Walter

At the Waste2BioComp project, we are proud to work with a network of dedicated professionals helping to drive circular innovation in materials, manufacturing, and beyond. We’re excited to introduce you to one of our ambassadors, Lutz Walter, Secretary General of the European Technology Platform for the Future of Textiles and Clothing (Textile ETP).

Lutz is a driving force behind innovation policy and collaborative research in the European textile and clothing sector. He brings a strategic and future-oriented perspective to the W2BC community by advocating for technological advancement, sustainability, and stronger industry-academia partnerships to shape a resilient and forward-thinking textile ecosystem.

We asked Lutz about the importance of EU-funded projects like W2BC and here’s what he had to say:

About two-thirds of all textile fibres produced today come from non-renewable fossil resources. The use of such synthetic fibres is even higher in technical end markets such as performance apparel and footwear, composites and packaging. To reduce the textile sector’s dependence on fossil resources, we urgently need to develop biobased alternatives for fibres as well as chemicals or coatings.

Waste2Biocomp therefore is a very timely and strategic project to explore different novel pathways to more sustainable, resource-efficient and, where applicable, more easily biodegradable material alternatives. The use of organic waste as well as other currently underutilised biobased feedstock sources is also a good way of meeting humanity’s growing material needs without violating important resource boundaries.

We’re thrilled to have Lutz as part of the W2BC ambassador team. His work and insights embody the spirit of innovation and collaboration that drives our mission forward.

Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight more ambassadors who are shaping the future of circularity!
