On 29 April 2025, the Waste2BioComp project and BIOMATTERS Cluster gathered in Brussels for a full day dedicated to showcasing achievements, sharing insights, and strengthening collaborations across the bio-based and circular economy landscape. 🍃
The event brought together partners, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to reflect on the progress of the Waste2BioComp project and its sister initiatives within the BIOMATTERS Cluster — AMBIANCE, BIO-UPTAKE, GREEN-LOOP, NEW WAVE, VITAL, and W2BC.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in a series of impactful sessions:
- A keynote speech by Werner Bosmans, European Commission DG Environment, on EU policies and the future of bio-based materials.
- Project presentations showcasing the W2BC value chains, with textiles, packaging, footwear, and inkjet printing demonstrators.
- A global perspective on bioeconomy developments from Jukka Kantola (World BioEconomy Forum & Association).
- An engaging cluster session where each BIOMATTERS project presented its goals and innovations.
- A keynote and roundtable discussion led by Simone Maccaferri (CBE JU) and joined by Silvia Maltagliati (DG RTD), Lutz Walter (Textile ETP), Rick Passenier (GO!PHA) and Željko Pazin (EFFRA).
- A dedicated BIOMATTERS Corner allowed attendees to explore hands-on demonstrators from each project, bringing research closer to real-world application.
This event marked not only the conclusion of Waste2BioComp but also a springboard for continued work in advancing sustainable industry solutions through innovation and cooperation.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Brussels and to our partners who made this event a success.
Let’s keep driving the circular bioeconomy forward — together. 💚
